Social Responsibility
DayStar is committed to social transformation and has identified a holistic approach to social responsibility. By enabling the development of sustainable and competitive communities we aspire to uphold our Social licence to Operate.
DayStar supports the aspirations of the Millennium Development Goals, together with the National Growth Path published by Government. To ensure we align ourselves with these initiatives, the DayStar strategy encompasses the following:
- Focused beneficiaries: Women, youth and children
- Focused area of investment to ensure impact: Rural areas, guided by footprint of business units
- Focused development boundaries to ensure alignment with abovementioned initiatives: Education, Food Security and Environment addressing hunger, poverty and access to water at grassroots level
- Inclusion of an Employee Volunteer Programme to institute a culture of corporate giving
- Partnerships: Corporates, Community Organisations, NPO’s and NGO’s
Everything we do is underpinned by the need to use what we have been given to improve the lives of others; for example through DayStar, our Section 18A NPC initiative that manages Makoya’s social responsibility and outreach.
Makoya delivers service founded on a process of continuous improvement. We optimise and leverage the strengths of a diversified, united and engaged workforce, and uplift and empower our people in line with Government’s B-BBEE reforms.
We work towards improving the financial and social circumstances of all our stakeholders and recognise that their success is our success. By establishing dynamic, sustainable networks we aim to give our clients a competitive edge.
